hi,
I recently received this preconfigured lancom 821+ AnnexA from my adsl provider.
Said that my gb ethernet has been working well for the past 3month , this weird issue came up after I changed the router:
every half an hour my 2 dgs-1008d switches reboot !
My provider keeps saying the issue is on the switch side, which sounds reasonable 'cause I don't really know how and why a router could ever force a switch to reboot itself, but why are the switches working well with a netgear router and not working with the Lancom ?
If anyone has an idea how to move on finding out what the real issue could be, I would really appreciate that, 'cause this thing is driving me nuts.
Thanks
Giogio
p.s. the lancom is running the latest 6.11 lcos

Hi,

I don't know this specific type of switch, is it some sort of 'intelligent' (i.e. manageable)
switch? Then of course packets from the router can crash a switch if it doesn't handle
them properly. Can you record the traffic on the Ethernet (e.g. by putting a hub between
the router and the switch), so one could see what is happening immediatly before such
a crash happens?

Best regards

Alfred

Hi Alfred,
thanks for your reply.
The dgs-1008D is a D-link gb switch and it's unmanaged.
About your suggestion: do you mean putting a hub between the router and the switch, connecting a pc to the same hub and sniffing the traffic with some ethereal kind of software?

Thanks
Giogio

Hi,

Zitat:

Then I don't quite understand what you mean by 'reboot'.
An unmanaged switch does not contain any software that
could do so. It's just a piece of hardware (although a very
complex one...)

That's what I meant.

Best regards

Hi Alfred,
Zitat:

by 'reboot' I meant that the 2 switches perform the same operation that they would perform if I unplug the power and plug it in again.
