Problems with 1621

Execuse me for writing in English, but my written German is not that good. I can speak and read it so any answers may come in German.

I have the following problem: since our ADSL-line got upgraded to 1Mb/8Mb the router disconnects this line every 2 or 3 minutes. Until I have figured out what is causing the problem I want to use our old Speedtouch to make the ADSL-connection and use the Lancom as a firewall/dhcp-server/router etc. So the situation is as follows:

LAN -> Lancom -> Speedtouch -> ADSL

Is this possible and how do I setup the Lancom and connect things?
Or has anyone an solution to the disconnect-problem?

Moin,

du mußt das DSLoL Interface des Lancom benutzen und das Speedtouch an einen der Switchports des 1621 anschließen...

Wenn du den Setup Assistent benutzt, einfach bei Interface DSLoL auswählen. Dann benutzt das Lancom ein an den Switch angeschlossenes Modem für den Zugang. Der Rest sollte eigentlich identisch sein...

Mal abgesehen davon, daß diese Kombi zumindest theoretisch etwas unsicher ist...

Can you please provide me with some more information? The 1621 should be able to work on a full rate ADSL line. At first I would like to see the ADSL status /status/adsl.

Hello MoinMoin,

From our local Dutch distributer I learned that these problems can be due to the C-hardware release. He advised to trade the router in for a E3 or F3 release.

I would say he is right. The layout has been changed for release D for better reach. So the releases D or newer will work better.

The upstream rate is far below one megabit and 3dB for the upstream is the absolute minimum. A little change in the line characteristics and you will loose the connection. You should try a newer release. And please let me have another look at the ADSL statistics with it. I have never seen a full rate ADSL outside our laboratory. :-)

Well, one step nearer but still far away. I think, you expected a bit more. Is the connection now stable? Can you please give me a dump of the US bits per bin and the SNR tabels?

Which protocol are you using on the WAN side? PPPoE will be no problem when using an external modem and DSLoL. For plain IP or IP with DHCP you should use the private mode of the switch - and will have to connect another switch for your LAN. If you don't get a acceptable ADSL connection via the build in modem, you should try to get a device with ethernet WAN port for your external modem.

Hello Georg,

Thanks for the firmware update but I can't see any changes in the line characteristics. The line was stable until I moved the Lancom to a place closer to the ISDN-splitter. After that the connection got unstable. I have moved the device back to my desk and now it's connected for 2 hours already. I have the following charcteristics:

That's strange. I didn't expect this to work anymore. Well, that's MULTIMODE. What happens if you set the linecode fixed to G.992.1?

Maybe here is the problem (but maybe it is only because of ALCATEL linecode?). ANNEX-B should start at bin 32 and end at bin 63. There are 15 unused bins which should be enough for the missing 300 kilobit. On the other hand the bins below 32 should not have been used at all. Same with G.992.1? Then you should contact your provider and ask, if he has limited the usable upstream bins.

Thanks for the quick response. I have set the linecode to G.992.1 and the connection seems stable. Upstream however has dropped to 640 kBit/s.
